How to Use Shower Gel

the Proper Way

There is nothing more satisfying than getting in the shower to scrub away the working day. With so many wonderfully scented shower gels available, you may feel spoiled for choice. However, have you ever wondered how to use shower gel properly?

If, like me, you smother your body in gel, then you may be wasting your product. It is surprising how little you need to reach that satisfyingly clean sensation! By using a shower gel properly, you will save on product, and consequently, save money.

Once you have allowed the water to wet your skin all over, you only need 1 to 2 teaspoons worth of shower gel on your pouf to get that deep down clean feeling. Massage that all over your body, and you will never wonder how to use shower gel properly again.

However, there exist some other considerations you may wish to ponder.

A Smorgasbord of Shower Gel

Soap has been around for hundreds of years. In fact, an archeological dig of ancient Babylon discovered that Babylonians were making soap at about 2800 B.C.

The first liquid soap

Liquid soap first appeared in the mid-1800s. However, the concept didn’t catch on until B.J Johnson came up with the creation of Palmolive soap in 1898. Consequently, the liquid soap became so popular that B.J. Johnson had to change the name of his company to Palmolive.

The difference between liquid soap and shower gel

As technology and chemistry advanced, shower gel started to appear. The main difference between liquid soaps and shower gels is that shower gel does not contain saponified oil.

Oils and butter mixed with sodium hydroxide and water constitute saponified oils and form the basis of most soaps. However, petroleum constitutes the main ingredient of most shower gel.

When you consider the question of how to use shower gel, you must choose the right one for you. Consequently, Nella Naturals ensures that their shower gels remain Paraben and petroleum-free.

Shower Gel for Different Skin Types

Shower gels offer a cost-effective body wash to give a satisfying clean. However, it is worth noting the ingredients of a shower gel to ensure it doesn’t irritate or dry out your skin.

Surfactants

Surfactants are chemicals added to shower gel to aid with the cleansing process. Great for removing oils and grime from the skin and hair, you may find that this chemical can dry out your skin.

Scent

Many shower gels have perfume added to them and usually contain a higher amount of fragrance than conventional soaps.

Moisturizing Shower Gel

Moisturizing shower gels have a lovely creamy consistency. As well as cleaning your body effectively, they also moisturize your skin to prevent it from drying out. Natural products like almond milk added to the shower gel formula give a luxurious lather to keep your skin feeling relaxed and hydrated.

Unscented shower gel

If you don’t like the smell of shower gel, then have no fear because there exist scent-free shower gels.

How to Use Shower Gel Properly

Once you have established your skin type, then begin by choosing the right shower gel for you. Be it scent-free, moisturizing, or with a beautiful fragrance, you have a massive variety from which to choose.

Get wet

Shower gel won’t work on dry skin because you will not be able to spread it or form a lather. Therefore, make sure you give yourself a good soaking before you begin!

Just a little bit

You don’t need much shower gel for it to be effective. We asked how to use shower gel, and the answer is, in moderation. You only need 1 or 2 tablespoons on your pouf or cloth for it to effectively clean your skin.

Application

A shower pouf or a washcloth will apply the shower gel far more effectively than your hands. Also, a pouf or washcloth will create a luxurious lather, which not only feels fantastic but also cleans beautifully.

Scrub away

Use circular motions to massage the shower gel over your body. Try to avoid your eyes. If you feel you are running out of suds, then you may always apply another teaspoon of shower gel to your pouf.

The Finish

Rinse thoroughly and pat your body dry. By patting your body dry instead of rubbing, you maintain the moisture and prevent damage or stretching to the skin.

How to Use Shower Gel: Answered

Shower gels offer an effective way to clean and moisturize your body. Also, you only need to use very little for it to clean your body efficiently. And with scented and unscented varieties from which to choose, you may find yourself building up quite the collection.
