Scented candles, like wooden wick candles, give off so many delicious aromas to infuse your home with an evocative atmosphere. However, you have placed your candle on a glass surface, and now there is wax all over it. As a result, you find yourself wondering how to remove candle wax from glass surfaces.

I use decorative mirror tiles when I burn my candles because it offers a safe, noncombustible surface on which to place my burning candle.

To get the wax off, I scrape away the bulk of the wax and then use a hairdryer to soften the wax. As a result, the wax melts, and I then use a paper towel to absorb the waxy residue before buffing up the glass surface with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.

However, what if your candle comes in a lovely glass container and you want to save the votive for future use?

How to Remove Candle Wax

from Glass Holders

A couple of different methods may be employed when you consider how to remove candle wax from glass holders. If like me, you like to save your glass containers for future use, then these methods may prove the perfect choices for you.

Deep Freeze

Yes, you read that right. The freezer offers an excellent way to remove wax from glass candle holders. Simply place the glass holder in the freezer and leave it there for several hours.

When you remove the glass container from the freezer, you should find the wax will pop out very quickly with no effort. Use something like a wooden toothpick to pick at the wax while taking care not to damage the glass.

Once you have removed the wax, then you may wash out the container in warm soapy water to remove any residue. You may then polish the glass container to a lovely shine.

Be careful when handling the glass!

It is worth noting that very thin glass containers may break. As a result, you should be very careful when removing the wax so as not to break the glass. If in doubt, wear a thick pair of gardening gloves to remain safe.

Boiling Water

Thicker glass containers benefit from this easy method. Immerse the container in hot water first to help bring the glass up to temperature. If you pour boiling water straight into the container, it may crack.

Place absorbent paper or newspaper on a flat counter. This will help with the final cleanup and avoid getting wax everywhere!

Boil the kettle. Take the glass container out of the warm water and place it on the surface of the newspaper. Pour the boiling water from the kettle into the container.

As a result of this treatment, the wax will melt and float to the surface. Let the water and wax cool before picking out the wax.

Spillages will fall onto the newspaper, and any molten wax will remain contained within the fibers of the newspaper without contaminating your worksurface.

Any residue should easily wipe away. Wash the container in warm soapy water to achieve a shiny finish.

Dispose of the newspaper and paper towels.

Be careful!

Thin glass containers will crack if you pour boiling water in them. If you feel the glass is too thin, then try the freezer method. Warming the glass in hand-hot water first will help to reduce the risk of the glass cracking.

Do not pour melted wax down the sink as it will clog up your drainage system.

You have wondered how to remove candle wax from glass and found the perfect solution. However, do you wonder how to prevent candle wax from sticking inside your glass containers, to begin with?

A simple trick

Place your candle in your newly clean glass votive. Before lighting the candle, pour a tablespoon or so of water into the bottom of the container. This water forms a barrier between the glass bottom and the wax. Therefore, you will find it much easier to clean the container after use.
