Body Butter vs. Lotion:

Which Is Right For You?

Having dry, itchy skin can be distracting. I think it is safe to say we all have been stuck in an inconvenient place like a meeting where we can't stop thinking about how itchy we are. And knowing the difference between body butter vs. body lotion is going to be crucial in your effort to moisturize your skin properly.

It's also easy to assume that we have all been overwhelmed by the selection of products on the market to help us figure this problem out. But, conquering your dry, itchy skin no longer needs to be overwhelming. Don't you think it is time for you to have the soft, moisturized skin you've always wanted?

What is Body Lotion?

If I had to guess, you probably already have a bottle (or two) of body lotion in your bathroom. The body lotion comes in a variety of formulas and scents. This variety ensures that there is something out there for everyone's skin types and scent preferences.

When applied after a bath or shower, body lotion can help seal moisture into your skin. Sounds wonderful, right? The more you use a body lotion, the softer your skin could potentially become.

No matter what your skin type, we all have dry spots. The application of lotion to these areas regularly can help make those dry spots disappear.

Some body lotions also contain shimmer or glitter that can give you the glowy skin you have always wanted.

When to use body lotion

Like we mentioned above, applying body lotion after your shower is going to help lock in moisture. However, you can apply body lotion whenever you need it.

For example, in the colder months, my hands tend to get dry and cracked. I've found keeping a small bottle of hand lotion at my desk allows me to reapply throughout the day. No more cracked dry hands for me!

Like body lotion, body butter is designed to help moisturize your skin. The critical difference is what it is made out of.

Body butter typically contains cocoa butter, shea butter, or coconut oil and tends to be much thicker than regular body lotion. This can be extra soothing to dehydrated skin. If you live in a climate where it gets extremely cold in the wintertime, investing in some body butter might be a great idea. Body butter is best for those people, myself included, who typically have drier skin.

When to use body butter

Similarily to body lotion, for the best results, you should apply after your shower or bath. This again helps lock in all of that moisture.

If you have areas that are extra dry, for example, your hands or feet, apply two layers of body butter right before bed. Slip-on some gloves or socks, and you are on your way to softer skin.

Body Butter vs Body Lotion:

Which is Better?

When it comes to body butter vs. body lotion, I feel like you can't go wrong with either option. Why is that? Because they are both great at keeping your skin nice and soft. The best option for you is going to depend on your personal preference.

For example, if you live in an extremely cold climate, body butter is more than likely going to be your best friend. I say this because it's thicker consistency will help protect your skin more against the harsh outdoor elements than body lotion.

Because body lotion is thinner than body butter, it does absorb into your skin more quickly. So, if you hate any lingering greasy feeling on your skin while your moisturizer is drying, body lotion is more than likely going to be best for you. The same can be said if you have oily skin.

You may even find it is best for you to use a combination of both body butter and body lotion. The choice is really up to you!

Are you worried there is a difference in the application of body butter vs. body lotion? Don't worry; there isn't! That means you have to rub both products into your skin using your hands. Your extra thick body butter may only take a little bit of additional rubbing until your skin fully absorbs it.
